We're all feeling the effects of the past 18 months or so and there's still a way to go yet but that just means we need to find our relaxing outlets. I'm a huge advocate of self-care and for me, beauty treatments are usually my go-to as they allow me a couple of hours to recharge and take some time out to look back on what I've been up to. Earlier this month I was kindly invited along by The Massage Company to experience one of their treatments and of course, I said yes! Most people I've spoken to believe massage is a luxury that can't really be justified as a regular treat but The Massage Company's focus is to allow everyone the chance to make it a routine to help with pain (or relaxation) that also fits perfectly with your budget. They have 5 centres across the UK and I seriously hope more will be opening in the future because they definitely know what they're doing...
I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment and as soon as I walked in the atmosphere switched from busy to calm. I visited the Sutton Coldfield centre and I loved how airy and bright the space was, I could've just sat next to the aromatherapy diffuser for hours. After sanitizing my hands I filled out the form and was able to go in-depth with the reception staff about any specific pain I have and which treatment would be beneficial. They were so welcoming and even offered me a drink - always a nice touch. My therapist took me to the treatment room and I quickly changed into my underwear but it's totally down to preference how dressed you'd like to be during the treatment. We opted for the Deep Tissue Massage which targets the main muscle groups and helps to release musculoskeletal pain and tension, I've struggled with my neck for years so I was hoping to see the biggest difference in that area. There's also Swedish, Sports & Maternity Massage available.
Once I sat down I noticed the bed was heated and I can't explain how relaxed I felt - I need something like this at home! All of the products and sheets were beautifully laid out and clean which we all know I immediately look out for. I was lucky enough to add an upgrade to my massage so I opted for Hot Stones as I really wanted to target the muscle pain and heat always makes me feel better. The therapist started on my legs with medium pressure but again this is completely your choice. As we moved onto to my back I could definitely tell where my tender spots were. The massage takes 50 minutes but I asked for the majority of the time to be spent on the upper half so I was able to get the most out of the appointment. The lotion she used had a lovely scent and prevented any uncomfortable tugging without leaving a greasy residue afterwards. We chatted throughout the session and my therapist regularly checked to see if the pressure was right. I've never tried Hot Stones but it was such a game changer, they instantly soothed my skin and the firm pressure targeted the deeper knots I can't reach. After the massage I felt so much lighter and able to move my joints more comfortably, my neck and shoulders in particular felt less stiff and drained. I was given a little aftercare sheet with a recommendation of how often I should get a massage which is once-twice a month as my upper half needs some serious work. The week after my treatment I noticed some soreness but I made sure to drink a lot of water and rest during the first couple of days.
The Massage Company offer two memberships depending on your needs but typically it's recommended to have a massage every month for better long term results. They both have great benefits including Massage Credits Rollover so if something comes up in the month and you end up missing an appointment you can book two massages the following month! You can also share massage with friends and family, add discounted upgrades and have the option to split a 50-minute massage into two 25 minute sessions. If you've been looking for a professional and qualified place to get into regular massage I can't recommend The Massage Company enough. The process was so relaxing but most importantly my body actually felt better so it's well worth considering if you've been feeling run down and want some relaxing time to yourself.

The Massage Company | AKA My New Favourite Place To Unwind
We're all feeling the effects of the past 18 months or so and there's still a way to go yet but that just means we need to find our relaxing outlets. If you didn't already know, I'm pale AF and whilst I fully embrace my skin tone (as everyone should) there are some moments where I just feel better when I have a bit of warmth to my skin. I also find it helps disguise the Keratosis Pilaris redness on my arms and legs which I'm quite insecure about. I've recently been trying out two new products from Bali Body and I have to say they're by far the best self tans I've used! They're quite different from each other so today I'm going to share everything you need to know to help you choose the right one for you.
The key to a good looking tan is good prep. I always start by making sure I've done my waxing in advance, 3-4 days is usually enough time to let any irritation go down. If you shave I'd recommend doing this several hours before you plan to tan to prevent stubble dots. Personally, I think exfoliation is the most important step as you want to ensure the smoothest base possible. I'll hop in the shower, wash my body as normal and then go in with a physical scrub. I'm constantly switching between products but I'm currently obsessed with the Ameliorate Smoothing Body Exfoliant* which has the right amount of grit without being harsh on the skin. I've been using it for a good few weeks and it's made such a difference! If you want a more affordable option, the Dove Exfoliating Body Scrub Macadamia & Rice Milk is super effective and smells delish! If I remember I'll pair it with my exfoliating gloves for an ultra-smooth finish. Lastly, I apply a small amount of moisturiser to my elbows, hands, feet and underarms to prevent the tan from clinging, my go-to is the Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser, it's super lightweight and quick-drying- love!
I'd only tried high-street tanning products before this so I was super excited to try a more high-end option. Not only does the packaging look gorgeous, but it's also great quality. The 1 Hour Express Self Tan* won points straight away as I'm very impatient and this gives you a golden sunkissed glow in just sixty minutes - perfect if you need to go from desk to disco! The aerated mousse formula is so different from others I've tried and I really enjoy the whipped texture. I like to start at my feet and work my way up to prevent any creasing. I'll typically apply 3-4 pumps per body part and there's no real secret to getting a streak-free finish, you just need to work section by section and use the guide colour to check you've covered all areas. This mousse starts to set quite quickly so I like to take extra care around my hands/feet to ensure there are no harsh lines and so far it's been a success! It has a lovely fresh scent upon application and my skin actually feels so hydrated afterwards. If you have more time you can leave the tan on for 2-4 for a deep golden colour but either way, you still end up with a flawless, smooth tan that never looks orange or obvious. Once the tan has developed I'll take a quick lukewarm shower to wash off the guide colour and personally, I find it lasts for a good 7-8 days with the right maintenance and never looks crusty or has the tiger bread effect - what's not to love?
Bali Body Clear Self Tanning Water*
The thought of a clear self-tan was quite intimidating at first but actually, I found this even easier to apply than the former! This transparent water is perfect if you like to sleep in your tan or you're worried about the colour transferring onto your furniture/clothes. Formulated with 100% Natural DHA and nourishing oils, it's a great option if you have sensitive skin but still want a light-medium tan. It comes out as a traditional foam rather than a mousse but still provides an even finish even though there's no guide. Again I use 3-4 pumps per area and start low working up, taking care near any clingy spots. I'm so impressed with how easy and quick it is to apply this tan, I expected it to be quite difficult but the Bali Body Luxe Tanning Mitt* makes the whole process foolproof and mess-free! I find this formula has a slightly more red undertone but the final colour is super flattering and looks like you've been lounging in the sun for a week. It takes around three hours for a warm glow but you can leave it longer for a gorgeous medium tan. I've found that the colour continues to develop once you've showered so it's a great overnight option. To give my skin a bit of colour I use their Face Tan Water* which I apply after cleansing and before moisturising and it always matches my body perfectly and makes me glow!

Last year I noticed my hair started thinning (quite a lot) and it started to really bother me but I'm done being upset about it and I've decided to make beautiful, healthy hair my beauty goal for 2021 and three months in, we're definitely getting somewhere! Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably would've seen the new Garnier Ultimate Blends Hair Food Range well... pretty much everywhere! The packaging instantly drew me in and after reading their formulas have up to 98% natural origins, no silicones and are vegan friendly (a rare sight for the high street), I knew I had to try them! Every scent is designed to target a different concern, I've previously used the Nourishing Banana Hair Food Trio which is a must-have for dry/damaged hair but they've just launched the new Watermelon collection which is specifically formulated for fine hair that needs plumping without being weighed down - it's like they created it especially for me!
Garnier Ultimate Blends Plumping Hair Food Watermelon Shampoo | I'm quite fussy when it comes to shampoo. It needs to be gentle on the mid-lengths and ends but clarifying enough to remove any buildup on my scalp. This shampoo lathers up really well and you get a burst of Watermelon & Pomegranate for a super fresh & fruity scent that lingers for days. I like to wash my hair maximum, three times a week and I always double cleanse. I find this method keeps my fine hair fresher for longer and helps my natural oils distribute better on the 'rest' days. For me, this formula definitely lives up to the plumping claims and I instantly notice my hair feels fuller and looks more voluminous - I'm obsessed! It's also super hydrating and I could definitely use this daily without worrying about my hair becoming dry. If you have a similar hair type to me I can't recommend this product enough!
Garnier Ultimate Blends Plumping Hair Food Watermelon Conditioner | I'm always swapping and changing my conditioners and a lot of the time they start to feel quite similar but since buying this I haven't reached for anything else! It sounds obvious but it just works so well with the shampoo! The rich, creamy texture leaves my hair unbelievably soft and tangle-free but is still lightweight and super easy to rinse out. If like me you really want your hair to stay smooth and fragranced for more than a day then this duo will be your new bestie. I also love how affordable and accessible the range is!
Garnier Ultimate Blends Plumping Hair Food Watermelon 3 in 1 Treatment Mask | These hair masks are being praised all over social media and for good reason! Not only do you get a massive 390ml tub for less than a tenner, but they actually work to repair and strengthen your hair after the first use. Formulated with Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera Juice, & Watermelon Fruit Extract, this 3 in 1 treatment deeply conditions and protects the hair from damage. You can use the mask in a variety of ways depending on what your hair needs. If my locks are looking dull and lacklustre I'll use a generous amount as a pre-wash treatment but if it's a particularly dry day I'll work it through the lengths post-conditioner for an extra silky finish. A small amount can also be used on wet or dry hair as a styling cream to help smooth flyaways and add a beautiful shine. I definitely won't be changing my hair care routine anytime soon! Garnier Hair Food is currently 2 for £8 at Boots so now is the perfect time to stock up! They also sell the full Hair Food regimes for £12 so you're essentially getting the hair mask free - what a bargain! I think I'll be trying coconut next... or papaya - gahh I can't decide!

Seriously, who hasn't heard of The Inkey List by now? The simple yet recognizable packaging is all over Instagram and in drugstores across the UK, US, Canada and Europe. We've all stood at the beauty counter at some point baffled by the endless rows of products all claiming to do the same thing but The Inkey List believe that the more knowledge you have the better decisions you make and I completely agree. Their friendly and informative approach makes it super easy to create your ideal skincare recipe (you can do this online or through their social media) and figure out which products match your skin concerns without all of the confusing beauty jargon. They also offer fair pricing with the range varying from £4.99 to £14.99 - amazing skin has never been more accessible!
Breakouts seem to be the hot topic right now and it doesn't matter whether they're from pollution, stress (anyone else having a mini-meltdown every month, no, just me?), consuming too much chocolate or wearing a face covering, they have got to go. I was kindly sent The Inkey List SPOTlight Blemish Clearing Skin Recipe* featuring five of their most effective ingredients for banishing breakouts including the brand new Succinic Acid Blemish Treatment* which is my new secret skincare weapon...
Salicylic Acid Cleanser* | has been a staple in my collection for months now and it's always my first port of call when I wake up a spotty beast. It's a light, non-stripping gel that I typically reach for in the mornings as it helps remove any overnight sweat/shedding and creates a lovely smooth base for the rest of my routine. It contains 2% Salicylic Acid (a Beta Hydroxy Acid) which gently exfoliates and unclogs the excess sebum/dead skin in the pores. The gel also contains Zinc to help control excess oil. Despite only being on the skin for about 60 seconds, it makes a big difference to the overall texture of the skin and after a few uses, my skin is less congested.
Hyaluronic Acid* | is like the Beyonce of skincare. It does it all. Naturally occurring in the skin and holding up to 1000x it's weight in water, it's the ultimate hydration booster. I've tried multiple formulas in the past but The Inkey List's offering definitely beats them all. It's super affordable, easy to slot into your routine and most importantly gives you the juiciest, plumpest looking skin. Like SPF, it's that one ingredient that everyone can benefit from regardless of their skin type. I apply mine to slightly damp skin for a bouncy, dewy finish. It also smooths out any dehydration lines and makes a great base for foundation!
Niacinamide* | Also known as Vitamin B3, this 10% Niacinamide serum helps to reduce excess oil, breakouts and redness in all skin types. My skin is pretty robust but it can be touch-sensitive to certain products but I was pleasantly surprised to see this actually calm my skin and tone down the pinker areas including my forehead which is a stubborn patch. It's a slightly milkier texture than the Hyaluronic Acid but you only need a pea-sized amount and it layers beautifully over top. I've been using it AM & PM and I've noticed less congestion across my nose, cheeks and chin and overall my tone is much more even.
Succinic Acid Blemish Treatment* | I was so excited when I saw the latest launch over on Instagram. I've never been devoted to a spot treatment (except when I was 10 and carried around a tea tree cover-up like it was the holy grail) but sometimes serums just don't cut it and you need something heavy-duty. I've never heard of Succinic Acid before but it works similar to Salicylic Acid by gently unclogging pores, reducing oil levels and calming inflammation. It also has antimicrobial properties and protects against environmental stressors. The Succinic Acid Blemish Treatment* is a bright green cream formula instead of a traditional gel base which I quite prefer. It can look quite scary when you first apply the treatment but it blends out completely clear and the natural green tint is amazing at reducing red patches. I had some active blemishes at the start of February and within a few days, they had gone down completely with no scarring! Oh, and did I mention it's less than a tenner - bargain or what?
Multi-Biotic* | To seal everything in I've been using this moisturiser which has become my new go-to, especially in the mornings. Although it's recommended for blemish-prone/oily skin, the beautifully light yet hydrating lotion could work for everyone (if you're extremely dry you might prefer something richer). Combining Pro-Biotic with both Pre & Post Biotics the formula helps balance the bacteria of the skin and promotes a healthy pH level. There's also 2% Squalane which is amazing at softening and adding moisture to the skin without clogging pores or feeling heavy. It definitely rivals some of my high-end faves!

Have you tried anything from The Inkey List yet?

Following lockdown, most of us were left without access to any sort of beauty treatment for months on end. To some, that may not seem like a big deal but looking after ourselves is not only a form of self-care, it's also how some of us choose to treat ourselves and not being able to top up our treatments only aided the feeling of losing control in an already devastating situation. Thankfully beauty is back in business but of course, not everyone can nor wants to go out for their treatments which is where Revarnish London comes in. Getting pampered without having to leave your home? Count me in!
Founded by Roxanne Campbell (an incredibly talented, award-winning Celebrity Manicurist & all-round sweetheart) Revarnish London is a Mobile Nail Service that allows you to enjoy a variety of nail treatments. The Manicurist provides all of the equipment for whichever service you've booked even down to fresh towels so you really don't have to do anything except sit back and relax!
For such high-quality, you'd probably expect a hefty price tag but amazingly Revarnish London treatments are actually very affordable. They mainly cover all areas in London however services in surrounding areas are still available with an extra fee which varies depending on your location. Another cool thing to consider if you're thinking about booking is you can have simultaneous nail services so if you fancied a Manicure & Pedicure you could have two Manicurists complete your treatments meaning you'd be done in one hour instead of two!
I was lucky enough to have Roxanne do my nails a couple of years ago and something that particularly stood out to me was her level of hygiene - if you follow me on Instagram you'll already know I'm a clean freak so when it comes to beauty treatments I'm extra cautious but Revarnish London is consistent with her practises and is just as luxurious as going out to the salon - perhaps even more so! Anything that doesn't come in sealed packaging is sterilized in an autoclave machine - we love to see it!
You have the option of Hand, Feet and Simultaneous treatments with either one of Roxanne's own cruelty-free Nail Lacquers which are super opaque and shiny or gel polish. There are also Add On Services which include: Gel Polish Removal, French Finish, Accent & Full Nail Art, Treatment for Damaged Nails and an Aromatherapy Oil Massage for your hands or feet. Their most popular treatment is The Ultimate Luxury Manicure & Pedicure and I can see why - it sounds like heaven! It includes having your Nails Shaped, Cuticle Work, Exfoliation, Paraffin Wax, Aromatherapy Massage and Gel Polish. How amazing would it be to receive this option as a gift? *proceeds to leave nail menu on husband's side of the bed inconspicuously*
I chose to have the Gel Manicure* which was a lovely treat. Once everything was promptly set up the Manicurist began shaping my nails, we decided to keep my length and round the corners for a chic look which I think is super flattering on everyone. She then moved on to softening my cuticles and neatened them into place which instantly made my nails look fresher. The little things make such a difference! To finish the nail prep she gently buffed over my nails to make sure they were smooth and ridge-free. A base coat was applied and whilst it was drying under the lamp I chose my colour. I was drawn towards the pastels and in the end, we both thought the blue would look extra cute. The Manicurist was so accurate in applying the Gel Polish (my shaky hands could never!) and once both coats were dry she sealed it with a final base coat which made my nails look super shiny. My nails were finished with a hydrating cuticle oil and then she started the hand massage which was absolutely lush. This wasn't a flimsy one either, it was a good firm pressure - seriously, who doesn't love a massage?
It was such a luxurious and relaxing experience having my nails done at home during these awkward times and now that I've tried it and loved the result I'll definitely be making it a regular treat for myself. Especially since I already do the majority of my beauty jobs at home, doing my own nails isn't something I'm good at or particularly enjoy so being able to have it done professionally in my own space saves me so much time and effort!
I've shared a video of my experience on my Instagram (@maiyabellexo) so if you want to see it in action be sure to have a look! Revarnish London is currently running a discount of 20% off all treatments until December 2020 so what better time to try it for yourself?
