It's no secret that we're all after perfect skin. No matter what our age or skin type the key thing is that we all share the goal of obtaining beautifully smooth, poreless, glass skin. Whilst it seems like an impossible feat, it can be done (gradually) and is something that I've spent many months trying to conquer. My favourite part of both my skincare and makeup routine is perfecting my base and it tends to be what people praise me on the most and today I wanted to talk you through all of the steps I've been taking to achieve flawless skin without foundation - it can be done!

Cleanse With A Tool | This is a must-have for achieving clear, even skin. In my early teens, I used a typical high-street face wash and only used my hands to remove the product but once I started using a flannel the texture of my skin dramatically improved. Even before you start using actual exfoliants you need to give the skin a gentle buff every morning and night, either with a flannel, muslin cloth or even a sponge (I love the Konjac ones!) It's such a quick and easy way to help remove impurities, dry skin and uneven texture, especially if you don't like using things like acids and scrubs!

Step Up Your Treatments | Whenever I go two-three days without using some sort of resurfacing toner/mask I instantly notice a difference in the look and feel of my skin. I lose my natural shine and I get massive patches of skin that feel like sandpaper - it ain't cute! I think most people use acids now, at least in a liquid form. This is great for beginners but if you want real long lasting effects you need to be exfoliating 3-5 times a week. I know it might sound a bit intense but most people can tolerate it, you just have to see what works for you. I like to switch between my favourites so one day I'll use something like the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask which is great if you want an instant glow, then another day I'll use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant* which leaves my skin feeling like a baby's bum! Or if I want something chemical I reach for my trusty DCL Multi-Action Penta Peel Pads* which are so potent and effective - they're a massive reason why my skin has been so good lately!

Introduce A Supplement | I've definitely noticed an improvement since I started taking a supplement (both mentally and physically) and my skin definitely seems it's calmest when I'm keeping up with my intake. Now I can't tell you the best one for you as everyone is different but even simple Vitamin C/D tablets can give your skin a boost and make a bigger difference than you'd expect. I've been using the My Vitamins Be Your Best Tablets* which are multivitamins that help your immune system, energy levels, metabolism and much more!

Stick To What You Know | Last year between August-October I was constantly chopping and changing my skincare routine pretty much every day and my skin was a lot more irritated than I realised but as soon as I streamlined it down to a handful of products it was like I had new skin! For about a month I kept to a solid routine of gentle but effective products and then I slowly started incorporating newbies and it made such a big difference to my skin's texture! I've also had no blemishes and my blackheads/congested areas have drastically reduced which is just amazing! The Huxley Gentle Cleansing Gel*, La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Intense Soothing Fluid and Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask have all been lifesavers!

Everyone has their favourite beauty retailers that they love to visit whether it's to stock up on their all-time faves or just to swatch the newness and lust over all of the brands and one of mine is Space NK. As soon as I discovered the one in The Mailbox (which sadly is no longer there), I became obsessed. Their shops have a super chilled vibe that makes it really easy to stay in there and shop for hours. They also carry an amazing selection of brands from the well-loved high street ranges like Kiehl's and REN to the more luxurious offerings of La Mer and Byredo. It really is the perfect place for a beauty lover and today I thought I would share four products that I think everyone should go in and try!
four space nk buys that are totally worth it maiyabellexo
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit | Whenever I visit a Space NK I always have a cheeky look at the Hourglass counter. Everything just looks so luxurious and high end - it really is a makeup lover's dream! If you're into powders/blushers and things of that nature then Hourglass palettes are definitely something to check out! I have the Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 2 which has a bunch of gorgeous highlighters and luminous powders! Over Christmas, they launched their fourth edit which comes in a limited edition metallic pink compact. How amazing does that sound?

Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturising Cleanser | I'm sure most of you will have heard of this cleanser (especially if you're a skincare junkie like moi!) It's taken me a while but I finally managed to snag the last one at a Space NK event earlier this month. Unlike most of my cleansers, this has a creamy milk/balm texture which feels really luxurious and comforting on the skin without being heavy or leaving a residue. It's formulated with Jojoba, Avocado Oil and Manuka Honey and has a beautiful light vanilla scent! It's suitable for all skins but is especially good if you're feeling dry or sensitive! I find a little goes a very long way and I love using it in the mornings or as a second cleanse - it's too lush for makeup removal!

BECCA Backlight Priming Filter | It's no secret that I love a glowy primer and this is one is glowy. Now that the weather is warming up and Spring is fast approaching this is definitely going to be my go-to primer as it gives a really smooth, hydrated base that just looks so healthy and radiant! If I'm having a no-makeup makeup day I'll take a pump of this and mix it with a tinted moisturiser (usually the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue) for the prettiest everyday base! Love!

Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal & Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo* | Most of you probably saw the Instagram stories I posted when I attended the launch event for Briogeo at Space NK at the beginning of the month. It was actually one of the best events Hubby and I have been to and it was so much fun learning about the brand from Nancy (the founder!) They've recently come over from the US and the entire range is silicone, paraben and sulphate free - woohoo! I was kindly gifted this a pot of this lush minty goodness and it has seriously changed my hair care routine! It smells amazing (thanks to the Peppermint) and the vegetable-derived micro-exfoliators helps get rid of any dirt, sweat and impurities that can clog the hair follicles. Since I started using this I haven't had any itching and my scalp feels so clean but not stripped! I can't recommend it enough!

2019 will forever be known (to me) as the year that I finally discovered my signature makeup look. You know the look that still lets you look like you, just a million times better? Yeah, that one! If you follow me on Instagram you would've seen me wearing this makeup a lot recently but I wanted to do a more detailed post on the five key products that are crucial for creating this look and will definitely be repurchasing in the year!
five base products i'll be repurchasing in 2019 maiyabellexo
EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation | This has definitely been the biggest game changer when it comes to perfecting my makeup routine. Before I found this I was constantly having issues with my base from dry flaky skin to my foundation not lasting and going patchy but this is like cement (in a good way!) Recently I'm over the 'natural' look and I just want full coverage. This foundation gives me a flawless finish, blurs every pore, blends seamlessly, and offers a beautiful skin-like full coverage! It's pretty magical stuff!

Makeup Revolution Fast Base Concealer | You guys know that the MUR Conceal & Define Concealer has been my ride or die for ages so naturally I didn't expect to find something I love just as much but this new(ish) offering from them has completely changed my mind! The formula is slightly thinner and less creamy but in a way that's what makes it so great as it doesn't move around when I'm doing other parts of my makeup! It has a medium-buildable coverage and sets to a soft matte finish which gives a gorgeous polished finish to the skin! I'm definitely going to pick up some darker shades for contouring!

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter Duo | Lightning Dust & Fire Crystal | I think the main thing I've realised recently is that I can't do my makeup without a strong highlight. I just can't do it. And when I say strong I'm talking at least twice as blinding as what most people would call 'wearable'. There's just something about a good highlight that brings so much life and cuteness to the face and for me, it's a step that can't be skipped! At the moment I'm still completely and utterly in love with my Fenty duo! The shades are super flattering on my fair skin, the formula is super smooth and pigmented and the overall finish is exactly what I want from a highlighter!

Makeup Revolution Baking Powder | Lace | Ever since I started baking my foundation routine has been completely transformed. It's another step I can't miss and even when doing a really simple look I still have to bake my under eyes and jawline. I love this powder because it's really light and on the neutral-pink side which counteracts my foundation which is slightly yellower so my overall base looks really pulled together. When I'm ready to bake I take a fairly heavy amount of the powder onto my damp sponge (which I used to apply my foundation) and I pack it heavily onto any areas that I want to last all day! For £5 you seriously can't go wrong! They've also just released a bunch of new shades including Translucent and Banana Light which sound amazing!

Morphe Continuous Setting Mist | I had seen so many beauty bloggers and YouTubers rave about this and like most of you I kept thinking 'oh it can't be that good' but I'm here to tell you it's bloody amazing! Before this, I didn't have a dedicated setting spray but I definitely needed one and paired with the EX1 Foundation this keeps my base flawless, non-cakey and set in place literally all day! It works with other bases too but right now this combo is too dreamy to split up! Guys, I've found the one!

Ahh, Valentine's day. The day when the pressure to be an amazing girlfriend/wife/whatevs is stronger than ever and we all feel compelled to dress like an Ann Summers model and shower our men with food, sex and love. Now I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with this if that's what you like to do but I think I can safely say that the majority of us just want to stay in with Dominoes and Netflix. Am I right?? I'm not too sure what Kadir and I are going to be doing to celebrate V-Day but I thought I would share some of my beauty faves that I'll definitely be sporting on the day!
my valentine's day beauty essentials maiyabellexo
I always like to make a bit of effort for a special occasion and it's probably the only time I remember to moisturise my body. I forgot to include it in the photo but recently I've been loving the Soap & Glory This Butter Be Good Body Butter* which I received as a Christmas gift. It's their original scent with a hint of spice - it's seriously lush! Moving onto fragrance. I'm very particular about what scents I wear as I find a lot of perfumes too strong but the Missguided Boss Babe Eau De Parfum* doesn't have that effect! It's quite an intense, sexy perfume with notes of Bergamot, Rose and Vanilla but it's really soft and girly at the same time! Need I say more?

I want to keep my makeup really fresh on the day to mix things up a bit and also to save time getting ready. Sticking with the minimal theme I'm definitely going to be using the Becca Skin Love Glow Elixir as a primer! It has a beautiful, serum-like texture and it gives the most gorgeous lit from within glow! It's such an amazing product for no-makeup makeup days! For my eyes, I'm opting for the Pixi Beauty + It's Judy Time Get The Look Palette* to lightly contour and add some warmth. Another essential is the Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2 Mascara which is perfect for creating serious lift and volume without being gloopy! For lips, I've recently rediscovered the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm which is such a gorgeous peachy/brown toned nude! It's super comfortable on the lips and requires little to no maintenance! Yas bitch!

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

I know that as soon as I type this I'm going to jinx myself but over the past few weeks my skin has been looking incredible! I haven't really changed anything lifestyle-wise so I'm putting it down to my new, religious skincare routine. I always take care of my skin but recently I've been putting a lot more focus into specific concerns and tailoring my routine daily rather than weekly. I'm so happy with the products I've been using and most of them are fairly new to me so of course, I wanted to share them with you!
an updated skincare routine maiyabellexo
Huxley Secret Of Sahara Cleansing Gel* | I'm definitely a fan of oil-based cleansers but sometimes you need something lighter for every day and this has been perfect! It's a really light refreshing gel that leaves my skin feeling properly cleansed without any sort of dry/tight feeling afterwards. I actually find it to be really hydrating and softening which is quite rare for a gel. If you prefer a more 'foaming' cleanser than you definitely need to check this out!

Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish* | Ever since I started incorporating this into my routine I've noticed such a big difference in the texture of my skin. I think that's my biggest skincare pet peeve as I absolutely hate the look of dry, bumpy patches under my foundation but this has buffed my skin to perfection! It has a lovely herbal scent and the sugar particles are just the right size to gently exfoliate without being harsh or cause irritation. Just use it once or twice a week for a face like a baby's bum!

Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist | Because my skin has been so well behaved recently I find that I don't always have to use a toner but when I do this is the one I've been loving! I don't like anything greasy, especially when I'm layering products so this is perfect as it's super light and adds that extra moisture and plump effect. Plus it smells lush!

Emma Hardie Midas Touch Serum* | I was so surprised when the gorgeous Charlotte sent me this serum and I'm so grateful because my skin has been absolutely loving it! Firstly I think the packaging and dispenser are really cool but the serum itself is so moisturising and makes your skin look like you've been drinking 2L of water a day! If dehydration/dullness is your concern then I highly recommend trying this!

Nivea Daily Essentials 24H Moisture + Express Primer Gel Cream* | I usually love Nivea products and this is no exception. I've realised that I don't like a super-rich (almost clogging) moisturiser so this ticks all of the boxes for me! It has a gorgeous silky texture, it absorbs in seconds and my makeup applies beautifully over top. This one is great for those with a normal/combination skin but there's also a dry skin version so everyone is covered! It's also currently on offer for £2.55 in Superdrug! Yasss!!
