Who doesn't get the January blues at some point or another? I certainly do and it honestly sucks. If you follow me on Instagram (which you definitely should as I'm hosting a big giveaway when I hit 3K) you'll know I'm putting all of my energy into staying positive and just taking things as they come and much to my surprise it's actually working! I'm managing to get so much work done and it's some of the best content I've put out in a long time (if I do say so myself). January blues, depression and just general lack of motivation can be so frustrating and I know how hard it is to get out of that funk so today I'm sharing my top tips for staying on track - especially if you're a freelancer/blogger!
how to beat the january blues and stay motivated as an influencer maiyabellexo
Forget The Past | I thought I'd start with the most important yet probably hardest tip I have. Most of you will probably know how shite 2018 was for me, I'm not going to bore you with the details for the millionth time but part of why I'm *trying* to be so positive this year is because I don't want that to repeat itself. I think a lot of people feel happy for the first week of January but quickly start to remember the issues they dealt with in the previous year and it starts to put them into a very negative frame of mind. What's happened has happened, you can't change it and the best thing you can do is focus on being happy and achieving your goals. Everything else will start to fall into place, trust me.

Do More Things You Love | We all use the excuse of Christmas to pamper ourselves and indulge more but that shouldn't stop just because December is over. Taking an extra hour a day or even weekly to have a much-needed bubble bath or finish reading that book can completely change how you feel and get you feeling much more 'ready' to crack on with your work/to-do list.

Create Good Content | Ok so we've all heard this before and thought 'well dur' but I've only recently properly understood it and started to really implement it into my blog. Every influencer is different and we all have something unique about us but creating content that actually keeps the viewers coming back and makes new followers want to stick around is a lot harder than it sounds. There was a point with my Instagram when I would upload for the sake of uploading and of course it had the exact opposite effect from what I wanted. At the start of the month, I went through my blog and IG and wrote down which posts had the most likes, engagement and positive feedback and now I'm making sure to create content on that same level. This also applies to photography. We all have those days when we don't have the energy to have a full-on photo sesh and there's nothing wrong with that but in my experience, it's better to wait until you can put out something you're proud of instead of something of lesser quality and just hoping for the best!

Catch Up With Your Online Besties | I can't explain how kind and supportive my blogging besties have been recently! The difference it makes to my work attitude and even my general mood is just amazing! Of course, you still have the people you know in real life but sometimes it's more comforting talking to someone who does the same thing as you as you can both motivate each other and come up with new ideas together! #GirlPower

Take A Break | Even when you try really hard sometimes you're just not feeling it and at that point, it's time to take a step back, regroup and start fresh. You don't want to constantly do this but if you're having a particularly stressful month and you just can't focus, having a little break can do wonders!

I really hope you found this helpful! What are some of your top tips for staying positive/focused?

Just like most of you, my skin has taken a beating these past few weeks. Alcohol, roast dinners and countless Terry's chocolate oranges have been consumed and the harsh, unforgiving weather has left us feeling shrivelled and dull. To be fair it's worth it for a good old Terry's - am I right? I think it's safe to say that most of our struggling with dry/dehydrated/upset skin so today I wanted to show you some of my favourite products for such an occasion. Get ready to look juicy AF...
winter skincare picks maiyabellexo
Dermalogica Precleanse* | So I thought I'd start off with cleansers as that's usually what 'sets the tone' for how your skin looks and feels. I love using a light gel or milk in the warmer months but as it gets colder and you're constantly switching between the freezing cold and central heating you're going to need something beefier. That's a nice word, isn't it?  This cleansing oil is the perfect option as it destroys all of your makeup and SPF but it's also extremely softening and hydrating. I find it really calming and my skin feels so much healthier when I use this. It also emulsifies so it doesn't leave a greasy residue. Win!

DCL Multi Action Penta Peel Pads* | I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a chemical exfoliant in your routine at this time of year. They're exactly what you need to get your skin looking fresh and radiant and not like you've gone through 15 boxes of mince pies. I love a good acid pad and these are without a doubt the best ones I've tried. You get 50 in a pot and they're loaded with naturally derived acids including Salicylic, Lactic and Mandelic (my fave). They do so much for the skin but to sum up they exfoliate and remove dead skin, stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  I use them 2-3 times a week and my skin has never been smoother!

May Coop Raw Sauce* | I've never really been a big essence user but I definitely see the benefits of having one in my routine. If dehydration is an issue for you (which it is for the majority of us) then this is a really great step to have! Rich in anti-oxidants this leaves your skin super hydrated and plump and also protected against free radicals. I also love that it comes in a travel size!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Awakening Gel-Cream | My under eyes are so dark recently but I've realised there's not a great deal I can do as they're mostly genetic (thanks mom) so I'm focusing mainly on the dehydration lines and dryness. I don't like a super rich cream as I get extremely puffy in the mornings but this light-weight gel has been amazing for keeping my eyes moisturised and smooth. A fab highstreet find!

The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% | I always step up my retinol game when I've neglected my skin and I still love this one as it's really light, absorbs easily and doesn't give me any irritation. I've had a lot of congestion recently but as soon as I start using this consistently it virtually disappears and my skin looks really even and poreless. I also find it great for reducing any pigmentation, fine lines and dull areas! It's super affordable too!

Indeed Laboratories Squalane Facial Oil | I've skipped moisturiser and gone straight to grease as nothing gets my skin looking plump and juicy like a good quality oil. This beauty is derived 100% from Sugarcane and is great if you need some extra hydration without the gloopy texture. It's quite a thin formula but you only need 1-2 drops as it's very nourishing and won't clog your pores! Fun tip, apply this onto clean skin and then add a bit of Charlotte Tilbury's Hollywood Flawless Filter over top for the most beautiful smooth, glowy, filter-esque skin!

Becca Skin Love Glow Elixir | It's no secret that I love a glowing base and always use a radiant primer to get as much sheen as possible. This had been on my wishlist for such a long time and I finally picked it up when it went on sale a couple months ago (you gotta love the Instagram beauty community!) This is a gorgeous silky elixir that adds a subtle glow and some extra moisture for your foundation. It also protects against free radicals and environmental stressors! Yes, please!

Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel* | My body gets extremely dry in the Winter but to be honest I'm probably the laziest person when it comes to actually doing something about it. Although it's not all my fault as a lot of body products irritate my skin and leave me greasy and itchy - not a good feeling! I'm a big fan of the original Bio Oil but their new gel formula has completely knocked that off the top spot! It still has an oil base but isn't as slippery and absorbs much quicker. I've been loving it for all over my body but especially my eczema and scar on my forearm. I can't recommend this enough!

I honestly thought I'd never see the back of 2018 but thankfully it's behind us and we live to see another year. I'm actually really excited for 2019 which is both good and strange as I lost a lot of enthusiasm and happiness very early into last year. Something hit me in December and after having such a poor year my mindset has completely changed and I feel much more positive and eager to see what this year has in store for me. I've also set myself a handful of goals which isn't something I did last year and I can't wait to smash them!
my goals for 2019 maiyabellexo
Hit 4K On Instagram | Ok so this one might sound a bit unrealistic but I'm feeling hopeful! It's definitely not all about the numbers and I've built a lovely following over the years and made some lovely blogger friends but it would be amazing to finally reach 4K! You can follow me here!

Continue Working Out & Drop A Dress Size | I feel a little anxious talking about weight but I thought I would just be open about the subject. I started exercising regularly last year and I've managed to steadily lose weight and start toning up. I'm very body conscious and I've spent years battling depression linked to how I look but I'm finally feeling confident with my shape and this year I want to try and hit my desired weight! *reluctantly pushes crunchie bar away*

Travel More | I absolutely love hopping on a plane and exploring new places and this year Hubby and I have made a promise to visit some different countries. We're hoping to go on at least 3 city breaks and at the moment Amsterdam is at the top of our list! We also really want to see Rome and Berlin! I absolutely can't bloody wait!

Get My First Tattoo | This won't take me very long to cross off my list and I doubt I'll have just one by the end of the year but getting a tattoo has been something I've wanted to do for ages! I have so many ideas for different areas but my first one is going to be something that's very close to my heart. I can't wait to share it with you when it's finished!

Happy New Year!! Ok, so I know I'm a little late but I still wanted to address the fact it's a brand new year! I sincerely hope you all had a wonderful festive break and you're not missing Christmas too much. I've just come back from visiting family and am ready to delve straight in and show you all of my top beauty picks of 2018! I thought I'd stick to mostly makeup and skincare as there's quite a bit to get through! You may want to grab a cuppa...

Makeup

J.ONE Jelly Pack* | I was kindly sent this magical primer a few months ago along with its night-time equivalent and they were both an instant success! My skin definitely looks better with some sort of base but this one is very different from others in my stash. It's a tacky gel that gives amazing slip for your foundation and also some extra hydration. Foundation sticks to this like glue but it doesn't look cakey or dry. If long-lasting makeup if your goal - you need to check this out!

EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation | 1.0 | This was one of those products that reminded me to regularly check my makeup drawers because you never know what gems you've forgotten about. 2018 was definitely the year when I stepped up my makeup game and started opting for a slightly more glam look. Every time I wanted full coverage this is what I reached for. It has a gorgeous satin finish to the skin, spreads beautifully, lasts extremely well and gives me a gorgeous flawless finish that I've been loving! And it's only £12.50 - say whut?!

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary BrowsYou guys know I'm obsessed with eyebrows. Bushy, thick almost caterpillar-like brows - ughh lush! I've been rocking the strong brow for a long time now and I've tried quite a lot of setting gels but none compare to this! The teeny weeny brush helps grab every single hair and makes application so precise which I'm all for. It also leaves the brows looking super soft and full rather than slicked down and one-dimensional. Absolute gem right here!

Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat Palette | This was quite late coming into my arsenal but it definitely took over all my other eyeshadows. I've mentioned in previous posts that the original Naked Heat palette didn't really tickle my fancy but this had my name written all over it! It's a travel-friendly palette full of warm-toned goodness and a beautiful satin to highlight. Don't even debate this one!

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlight Duo | If there's one makeup product that completely changed my life this year, it's this beaut! Since switching to a slightly more matte foundation I've been loving packing on the highlighter and this will give you a serious GLOW. Obviously, if you prefer a more subtle look this probably isn't for you but if like me you want to be seen from outer space, this will be your new BFF!

Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Concealer | I've just finished my second tube of this which has made me a little anxious as I don't have a backup but I'm hoping to go shopping this week and get a couple spares! There's just something about the texture and finish of this concealer that stops me reaching for anything else. I particularly love it for under the eyes!

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes 2 | Charlotte definitely knows what she's doing when it comes to eye makeup. This is pretty much the only mascara I've used for the past 6-8 months and sadly it's coming to an end but I'm really looking forward to trying some new formulas! This gives my lashes so much volume and length but it also keeps them lifted all day long which is a big deal for me!

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer | 2018 will be known as the year that I finally found a bronzer that works with my pale skin! I never thought I'd find one with such a good 'natural' looking undertone but this gives me a lovely warmth but also doubles as a fab contouring powder! I also can't get over the fact it tastes like chocolate (I mean I couldn't not taste it)!

MAC Lip Liner | Whirl | The final makeup item I have to mention is one that you've all probably tried at some point or other. 90s trends were big in 2018 and those pink/brown/mauve nude lips were a massive part of the craze. I've been loving this for achieving that neutral slightly moody look but also for cheating fuller lips that still look 'natural'.

Skincare

Aromatica Orange Cleansing Sherbet* |  I discovered some amazing K-Beauty products this year and this cleanser was one of them! You guys know I'm a sucker for a cleansing balm but it's very hard to find one that's on par with the Emma Hardie one. I'm obsessed with the smell of this, it's really citrussy and just so uplifting and it's one of those products that's a real joy to use. The texture is very silky and easy to massage into the skin and you'll be pleased to hear that it emulsifies into a gorgeous milk! Whether it's for makeup removal or a proper skin cleanse, this is a must-have!

Caudalie Vinopure Blemish Control Infusion Serum | You know when you purchase something on a whim but it ends up becoming one of your favourite products ever? This was one of those times. I ordered this pretty much as soon as it launched in a bid to deal with my blackhead situation and to my surprise it actually worked! It's formulated with 100% Natural Salicylic Acid and is amazing for anyone with breakouts/congestion. The texture is very thin and it layers really well with other products - I can't recommend it enough!

Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish* | This is another Korean gem that had so many fab reviews and the beauties at Tonic15 gifted me a jar and I'm so so grateful because this has transformed my skin! I don't use a lot of physical exfoliators but this has just the right texture for a thorough yet gentle exfoliation. I'll use it about twice a week and my skin feels baby soft afterwards! It also smells incredible!

Indeed Laboratories Squalane Facial Oil | When I first started blogging I was obsessed with facial oils but over the years, I've sort of lost my enthusiasm for them. I'm definitely guilty of using products that were too much for my skin but as always, Indeed Labs have nailed it and come through with a beautiful light-weight oil. It's a lovely hydrating formula and is great for those days you want to keep layering your products.

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream With Active HydraMesh Technology* | I really liked the original Skin Smoothing Cream but Winter has left my skin super dry and flaky and this was much more hydrating and nourishing on the skin (for me anyway). It has a gorgeous lotion-cream texture and it leaves a slight film on the skin making it perfect for pre-foundation!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ SPF30 | I have to be honest with you guys and confess that I don't use SPF as much as I should. I know, I know, I have sinned but I'm trying really hard to be consistent and this fairly new offering from LRP has been my go-to throughout the year. It feels like a really light moisturiser, it doesn't leave a white cast and isn't greasy or clogging which is a big pet peeve of mine! It's super affordable and is great if you have an oily/combination skin and are worried about blemishes/marks!

Were any of these products in your best of beauty?
